Living Wage Award Certificate for Convertus Group

Convertus has cemented its commitment to fair pay, having been accredited as a Living Wage Employer in Ontario and British Columbia – being the first waste management program in British Columbia to acquire this certification.

As a Living Wage Employer, Convertus will pay all staff the living wage rate for the region(s) in which they operate. A living wage calls on employers to meet a higher standard for their staff and subcontractors, ensuring that wages reflect the true costs of living in a community. In Ontario, the living wage in London is $16.20/hr, while Ottawa stands at $18.42/hr. In Western Canada, the living wage for locations in Surrey is $19.50/hr and $15.81/hr in Nanaimo. These rates are significantly higher than the minimum wage in these provinces.

Kim Gould, Human Resources Director for Convertus said: “Because we care and because we can is the purpose of our company. Whilst we have paid a living wage to our employees for some time, we are pleased to officially be accredited as a Living Wage Employer. We are committed to paying the market rate to attract and retain talent that is aligned with our purpose and values. At no time will we pay below a living wage in Canada”.

Convertus joins a growing number of employers from all sectors and industries that have pledged to pay more than the government minimum, resulting in a healthier, more motivated and resilient workforce. Convertus hopes to lead other employers in the industry and community by example.

“Every member of our team plays a vital role in running our business and Convertus will continue to find ways to demonstrate our values of Care, One Team, and Creativity” said Gould.
